DTCM present excellence award to celebrity Arabic calligrapher

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) presented an Award of Excellence to celebrated Arabic calligrapher, Hasan Celebi, whose selected works were the cynosure of all eyes at the fourth edition of the Dubai International Exhibition of the Arabic Calligraphy Art which concluded in Dubai on Wednesday after a seven-day run.
The show, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, was organized by the DTCM in cooperation with the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), the Istanbul arm of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC).
The concluding ceremony was held at the venue in the presence of the UAE Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Mr. Abdul Rahman Al Owais.
Also present were DTCM Director General, Mr. Khalid A bin Sulayem, Mr. Mohammed Al Murr, Chairman of Dubai Cultural Council, DTCM Director Operations and Marketing, Mr. Mohammed Khamis bin Hareb, and Mr. Hakam Al Hashimi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of Dubai International Exhibition of the Arabic Calligraphy Art.
Mr. Hassan, highly-respected among the Arabic calligraphers community, received the trophy, designed to resemble an Arabic vowel, from Mr. Abdul Rahman Al Owais.
The Turkish calligrapher presented a special work of his to Mr. Khalid A bin Sulayem in appreciation of the DTCM's role in promoting the Islamic art and culture. He was also presented with a special work by a prominent UAE Arabic calligrapher, Mr. Mohammed Mandi.
All the participating calligraphers, including six from the UAE, were presented certificates and mementos. The calligraphers participating in the exhibition were from Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Sudan and the US.
The exhibition was sponsored by National Bank of Dubai (NBD), Dubai Cultural and Scientific Association, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and IRCICA.
