TECOM Investments organises blood drive in support of children with Thalassemia

TECOM Investments organised a blood donation drive at the Dubai Internet City and Dubai Knowledge Village, the event, held in co-ordination with Al Wasl Hospital under the theme "Add Colour to their Lives", was in aid of Thalassemic children.
Abdullatif Almulla, CEO of TECOM Investments said: "We fully recognize the urgency of supporting children with Thalassemia. Aware that lack of timely and proper treatment result in infantile deaths, TECOM Investments is committed to fostering a sense of responsibility amongst the community and stakeholders towards this syndrome. TECOM Investments has been involved with the blood drive initiative for the past six year and will continue to support such CSR programmes."
To ensure accuracy of information available at the blood banks, donors were urged to submit their blood types. Tests for blood pressure, haemoglobin, as well as weight and pulse were conducted by a special team of doctors and para-medical staff at the venues.
Most children with Thalassemia appear healthy at birth, but grow pale, listless and irritable, and suffer from poor appetite within the first two years. Heart failure and infection are the leading causes of death among children with untreated Thalassemia major.
