Presenting the Riffa Views Garden on the first public day of the show, Riffa Views Chief Executive Officer, Mr Richard Browning, introduced the landscape and design concepts.
Mr Browning said:
"Our participation in and sponsorship of the Riffa Views Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS) is an excellent opportunity to promote awareness of contemporary agricultural and horticultural technologies and show how plants can be used that are best suited to the region."
"Landscaping is very much at the heart of the Riffa Views development where we are re-establishing the greenery of Bahrain, and the garden gives a glimpse of what to expect when people buy a villa in our Signature Estates.
"The Riffa Views Garden is a living example of how even large spaces can be made green. What we are doing at Riffa Views is on a much larger scale of course, but we are using the very same types of plants and trees throughout the development, and some have even been transplanted here from Riffa Views especially for the show."
"The Riffa Views Garden demonstrates how a sustainable, beautiful green environment can be created in both small and large spaces. By selecting plants, grasses and materials that are adapted to survive in arid conditions with little water, we have achieved colour and an interesting small-scale landscape that will be seen in its full glory at Riffa Views."
Using plants that are well-adapted to arid conditions, the Riffa Views Garden replicates the landscaping style and themes of the development where arid desert scenes combine with emerald parkland and lagoons.
Trees suited to arid desert conditions - such as the Australian Bottlebrush, Euphorbia, and Casuarina - provide shaded areas, while cool water features are graced by delicate lotus flowers imported especially for the show from Thailand. Fountain grasses and ornamental plants create shape and colour, and golden-hued rock formations have been built using indigenous quarry stone from the southern areas of Bahrain.
The Riffa Views Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS) is under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, with the support of the King's wife and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Women, Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa.
The show, being held at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), runs from 1st till 4th March, and opening hours are from 10am to 9pm daily.
