UAE, Algeria $5bn smelter deal

Sonatrach, Algeria's national oil and gas company, has signed an agreement with the Mubadala Development Company and the Dubai Aluminium Company to develop the country's first aluminium smelter. The $5bn smelter will be located at a 400 hectare site at Beni Saf and it is expected to produce 700,000 tonnes of high grade primary aluminium per year, largely for export. The complex will include a 2,000 MW dedicated power plant.
