Cisco expands investments in the Gulf with the launch of direct operations in Qatar

Cisco, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, has expanded its presence in the GCC with the launch of its direct operations in Qatar, it was announced today.

The new office cements Cisco's regional growth and investment strategy and furthers Cisco's commitment to its customers and partners in Qatar.

Wayne Hull, Cisco's recently appointed South Gulf Country Manager will head operations in Qatar. Hull will be engaging closely with key customers and help align Cisco's plans based on the unique business and technology needs of this territory.

"Qatar has always been a key market for Cisco and our customers there have deployed some of the most advanced network environments in the region," said Hull. "We see a massive opportunity for growth and Cisco is investing heavily in terms of resources to provide strategic consultancy, direct support and smart business solutions to public and private establishments operating in Qatar."

"In November 2006, Cisco signed its largest ever consultancy agreement with Energy City Qatar. Through this strategic partnership, Cisco will identify and design advanced technology solutions to create the infrastructure required to support the $2.6 billion regional energy hub in Qatar. "The Gulf region ranks as one of the fastest growing region for Cisco worldwide and we are still in rapid growth mode and as a result, Cisco continues its strategic investments in the right resources."

Additionally, Cisco's new operation is committed to developing the networking skills of Qatari youth. The networking giant has recently established two Networking Academies in Doha to bridge the growing Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills shortages by providing a curriculum tailored to industries' needs.
