600,000 Saudi women smoke

Saudi Arabia's 6m smokers get through 15bn cigarettes each year, costing an estimated $1.3bn, according to figures provided by Dr Abdullah Al Badah, the supervisor of the anti-smoking programme at the Health Ministry, and cited by Arab News. The kingdom is placed 23rd among the world's cigarette consuming nations and an estimated 600,000 Saudi women, many of them teenage girls, smoke.
