Self-leadership and community development workshop at Effat College

In its constant efforts to develop employees professionally and equip them with leadership skills, Effat College held a three-day workshop for administration staff from February 28th -March 3rd2007 on campus.
Dr.White presented a workshop that focused on the four crucial elementsof leadership and communities; Economics, Social Issues, Cultural Issues, and the Environment. The workshop was an application of action learning because participants created a proposal for a project that will display their leadership skills and serve the community. The proposal included the problem identification, the four elements of leadership, and the desired outcomes from the project.
Upon completion of the workshop, several workshop participants presented proposals for impressive projects that will serve the community like cleaning up the city of Jeddah, creating a Mind, Soul, and Body Center for Women in Jeddah, and creating a railway station for the city of Jeddah. Dr. White expressed the hope that the participants will continue working on the various aspects of their projects until they successfully implement them in the community.
Mrs.Abeer Islam, the Manager of Human Resources Department at Effat College described her experience in the workshop. She stressed, "The workshop was unique because it enabled me to recognize that the more I serve the community, the more I enhance my leadership skills. I also became aware that I can develop a big project from a simple idea. As I worked on preparing the proposal I discovered new abilities within myself." Miss Areej Al-Omari, another participant and an assistant in Career Development Office at Effat stated, "I benefited immensely from this workshop because I learnt new ways of leadership and the means to serve my local community."
