The Dubai International Financial Centre was selected as the recipient of the Special Merit Award for Outstanding Industry Contribution. The complete list of winners is:

• Rasmala Investments - Newcomer of the Year
• Citco - Service Provider of the Year
• Investcorp - Institutional Hedge Fund Manager
• Argent Financial Group - Most Innovative Project
• ABN Amro - Hedge Fund Distributor of the Year
• DIFC - Special Merit Award for Outstanding Industry Contribution

The winners were announced at a gala dinner at the Jumeirah Beach hotel in Dubai which took place on the sidelines of the Hedge Funds World Middle East Conference 2007, the largest event of its kind in the region, which finishes tonight.

The awards, organised by Terrapinn and sponsored by Man Investments, the world's largest provider of hedge fund products, are designed to recognise and encourage excellence in the emerging Middle East Hedge Fund Industry.

Antoine Massad, the Chief Executive of Man Investments Middle East Ltd., said: "For more than 20 years Man Investments has worked at contributing to the development of the industry in the region. By sponsoring initiatives like the Hedge Funds World Middle East Awards, we remain true to our commitment to develop a rich, diverse and strong local hedge fund industry," He added, "I believe the strength of the firms on display tonight lays down a marker for the rest of the industry to follow."

The hedge fund industry in the Middle East has grown massively in the past five years, as local economies have boomed and a growing audience of investors have come to recognise the performance benefits of the asset class.

The awards event also raised funds for PlaNet Finance, an International Non Profit Organization dedicated to alleviating world poverty through the promotion of microfinance initiatives around the world. In 2005, the NGO launched an initiative to promote micro-lending in the Middle East and North Africa and today it has offices in Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine.

Veteran British journalist John Simpson, the BBC's World Affairs Editor was the guest speaker of the evening.
