SABEQ Program hosts briefing for Amman media members

The purpose of the gathering was to familiarize members of the media with the objectives of the project, and how it differs from past donor-projects. Another objective of the briefing was to create a productive dialogue and partnership between SABEQ and the media, specifically by assisting in creating the awareness among the general population, as well as the public and private sectors of crucial economic issues and the developments in Jordan's economy.

SABEQ Chief of Party, Rodrigo Ortiz, described the program's work with the private and public sectors, and highlighted the work in the governorates of Irbid and Karak. Achievement of SABEQ's principal goals in part lies in its ability to prompt local government to assume a more active and ownership role in promoting and sustaining their own economic growth. To achieve this, SABEQ has concerted efforts in the governorates of Irbid and Karak to increase local government understanding of the important role the private sector plays in the local economy, as well as the impact that local government initiatives can have on economic development.

The USAID-funded SABEQ program is a five year broad economic development initiative implemented by BearingPoint, Inc. and a sizeable team of international and Jordanian partner firms, supporting improvements in the business environment and providing assistance to expand innovation and productivity in Jordanian businesses.
