Banks merger plan halts trade

The merger announcement of UAE banks Emirates Bank International and National Bank of Dubai caught stock market regulators by surprise, as trading in both banks' shares was suspended on Wednesday, Reuters reported. Dubai Financial Market Chairman Essa Kazim said trading will not resume until market authorities get clarification from the banks about their plans.
