- PRESS RELEASE
The Saudi Iron and Steel Company, or HADEED - a SABIC affiliate - recently conducted a seminar to introduce the American Business Association to the quality of its products.
The seminar, at which HADEED and SABIC senior management took part, was held in the Eastern Province, and was also attended by some of the region's foremost engineers, businessmen, and private consultants.
Eng. Mutlaq Al-Murished, the Vice President of SABIC's Shared Services Division, opened the seminar by introducing the company and highlighting HADEED's accomplishments and achievements, as the HADEED plant is regarded as the largest fully-integrated steel manufacturing complex in the Middle East.
Al-Murished also presented an overview of economic developments in the industry in general and in the Kingdom, and gave some perspectives on the role of the WTO and globalisation. One of the main areas of focus for each presentation to the engineers and businessmen was on HADEED's unique bar-quenching process, used by HADEED in producing reinforcing bars to prevent rusting. The presentations showed that despite the discolouration of these HADEED products, this was not due to rusting, unlike in some competitor products.
The American Business Association is a voluntary, non-profit organisation that is designed to foster trade, commercial activities, and investment between the United States of America and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It also seeks to promote friendship and understanding between the two countries.
HADEED's production capacity now stands at 2.8 million tonnes per year of reinforcing bars, wire rod, and light sections. The company also has a flat steel production facility with a capacity of 850,000 tonnes. A planned expansion will raise this to some two million tonnes of hot and cold rolled and galvanized steel products. HADEED products are exported to more than 23 countries.
