ictQATAR, Ministry of Municipality launch 'ipark' initiative

H.E. Sheikh Abdul Rahaman bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture and H.E. Dr. Hessa Al-Jaber, Secretary General of Information & Communication Technology (ictQATAR) launched this evening the 'ipark' initiative - Qatar's free wireless internet access at public parks.
"The launch of this project, which is a great initial step for promoting the level of services introduced for public parks' goers, comes in the domain of the comprehensive development that prevails in all aspects of life that our dear country witnesses these days under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani the Emir of Qatar, and His Heir Apparent His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Communications and Information Technology, and as a continuation for the great efforts that the government exerts for building up a modern society in which all citizens are the focus of care and interest, and serving them is the main objective towards which we all aspire to achieve," said the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture.
"This vital project will provide free internet service along with special entries for every Park, which contains comprehensive information and the type of facilities and services it offers to the people," added the Minister.
On her part, Dr. Hessa Al Jaber ictQATAR's Secretary General emphasized ictQATAR's commitment to connect Qatari people to one another and to the world as well as availing this service to visitors and tourists. She pointed out that the Information Technology today plays an indispensable role in investment, industry and public services and has become a means of building a society that can cope with world developments under knowledge-based economy.
The Secretary General added that ictQATAR connects people to technology that will enrich their lives. It works hand in hand with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture and private sector to plan and develop internet parks and provide advanced services that support the overall development initiatives being witnessed and drive economic growth.
