VoIP violators face jail in Oman

Oman's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has banned the use of VoIP at cyber cafes in the country, reported the Times of Oman. Violators could face up to two years in prison and fines ranging between OR5,000 and OR50,000. The move comes to protect the interests of Omantel, Nawras and Oman Mobile; low-paid workers who used the technology to make cheap calls to their home countries will be hardest hit.
