The department was the silver sponsor of the annual exhibition last year.

DTCM Executive Director Human Resources and Training, Mr. Ibrahim Yaqoot, said the strong participation reflects the department's commitment towards the Emiratisation efforts in general and in tourism industry in particular.

The DTCM is putting up a big stand at the seventh edition of the Careers UAE where UAE nationals can meet directly with the recruiters and hiring managers from the top employers. Careers UAE also enables job seekers to learn about various training and career options.

Mr. Ibrahim said that Emiratisation at the DTCM has reached 79 per cent with 86 per cent of the UAE national employees holding leadership positions. DTCM has a total of 450 employees.

The total number of UAE nationals working in the tourism industry stands at 650. As many as 62 tour guides are UAE nationals. The department conducted 96 training sessions for its employees with staff undergoing an average of 41 hours of training in the year 2006.

The department will utilize the popular exhibition to draw UAE nationals, both males and females, for its hugely-popular Maharat, a job-linked nine-week training scheme for varied hospitality jobs at select five-star hotels which are also on the DTCM's Emiratisation Task Force for Tourism (ETFT).

The department established Training Solutions in the year 2001 to provide quality programmes to enhance the skills and knowledge of the hospitality industry professionals and raise the number of UAE nationals in the tourism domain. The Training Solutions has provided training to 6700 professionals.

A total of 627 nationals and expatriates have undertaken Dubai Update tour guide programme. A total of 18 employees have passed the Adaat diploma course, while 1300 training sessions were conducted by the American Hotel and Lodging Association.

He said Careers UAE has proved to be an ideal platform to reach out to a maximum number of talented and enthusiastic UAE national job-seekers keen on taking up careers in tourism and hospitality domains.

Representatives of ETFT member-hotels will also be present at the DTCM stand at the show.

The exhibition is organised by the Dubai World Trade Centre, with the official support of the UAE Ministry of Labour, and in partnership with TANMIA, Emirates Nationals Development Programme (ENDP), and Higher Colleges of Technology, Zayed University and UAE University.

There has been a 90 per cent in the exhibition space this year compared with the previous year with 150 exhibitors.
