Clyde & Co continues Middle East expansion with office in Qatar

Clyde & Co, who have the largest presence of any of the international law firms in the Gulf, have opened an office in Doha, Qatar.

This follows the firm's expansion into the US and China last year with office openings in New York, Los Angeles and Shanghai.

The establishment of the Doha office responds directly to the requirements of Clyde & Co's clients who have identified Qatar as a major growth area for their businesses. Building on the success of Clyde & Co's Dubai and Abu Dhabi operations, the office in Doha will soon be developed to offer a full range of services in Qatar, complementing and expanding upon the firm's current offering in the region.

David Salt, a former partner at Clyde & Co, London and more recently, a corporate consultant at Simmons & Simmons, Qatar, will head up the office as partner. Further recruitment for the new office will follow in due course.

David is a well-respected corporate and commercial practitioner who advises on corporate and banking matters for the Government of Qatar, Qatari public and private companies and non-Qatari companies, banks and insurance companies. David recently advised on the sale of Mannai Corporation QSC on the first Qatari debt for equity swap and Libano Suisse on the first insurance portfolio transfer in Qatar, and has advised many clients on establishment in the Qatar Financial Centre.

David said of his move, "I am delighted to be rejoining Clyde & Co. The firm have a superb reputation with their clients and a longstanding commitment to the Middle East."

Jonathan Silver, who leads the firm's operations in the region, added, "This is a natural extension of Clyde & Co's Middle East operations and a major step forward in the development of the firm in the region. We are fortunate to be in a position to welcome back to the firm a lawyer of David's calibre with the amount of specialist expertise and experience in Qatar"
