DED displays training initiatives at Careers UAE 2007

  • United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, March 13 - 2007 at 15:01
  • PRESS RELEASE

The Department of Economic Development (DED) will highlight its training initiatives at the 7th annual Careers UAE 2007 held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) from March 13 to 15, 2007.

DED's training programmes are aimed at identifying and training young national cadres to help them join leading companies in Dubai and help shape the future of the emirate. At Careers UAE 2007, DED's stand has tripled in size over last year to reach 24 sq m.

"As a step towards fulfilling HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision of enhancing the role of nationals in various economic sectors, DED launches several programs to care for the national talent, and create a new generation of leaders who can guide the country to greater success," said Mr. Khalid Al Kassim, Deputy Director General for Planning and Development at DED.

"DED's participation in the Careers UAE 2007 shows our commitment towards supporting Dubai's Emiratisation drive, and our keenness to provide national graduates with programs that will help them to identify their leadership skills and find ideal career opportunities," added Al Kassim.

Several DED employees will be present at the stand to explain the various UAE national human development initiatives currently in operation at DED to visitors and new graduates from the various colleges and universities. DED's initiatives include training sessions for nationals to start and manage Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), the Dubai Human Development Award (DHDA) which recognizes organizations that facilitate national human development and the "Intlaq" programme that enables nationals to establish home based-business.

"Emiratisation at DED in the executive and managerial positions have reached 100 per cent while the general scale of Emiratisation has reached 88 per cent, which is considered to be the highest when compared to other government departments," added Al Kassim.

The DED will distribute a new book at the stand, which explains the details of how to get the right job. It is written by Saad Abbas, Executive Supervisor in the Business Sector Development Division at the DED.

Launched in 1999, the "Intlaq" programme, which was awarded the Best Administrative Project in 2001 by the Dubai Government Excellence Programme, encourages nationals to start their home-based businesses. "Intlaq" is increasingly popular among young nationals wishing to merge their creative ideas into the fabric of the national economy.

The Dubai Human Development Award is a key initiative by the DED to boost Dubai's growth and encourage the contribution of UAE nationals to the development of the emirate. The DHDA recognises the long-term commitment of the private sector to the development of young nationals by offering them the chance to develop and build career paths.

About Department of Economic Development (DED):
The Department of Economic Development (DED) was established in March 1992, with the objective to organise, regulate and boost trade and industry within the Emirate of Dubai. The DED has moulded its mission of building a futuristic establishment, in accordance with the vision of the Government of Dubai and in the light of globalisation and the requirements of a digital economy. One of its key functions is to encourage local and foreign investments in commercial and industrial projects, and create the appropriate environment for investors.

The DED's other functions comprise a wide range of regulatory activities including the preparation and maintenance of a commercial register and the supervision of all organisations. The DED is responsible for regulating the affairs of commercial agents and brokers and commercial advertising offices, in addition to overseeing and controlling the insurance industry in the Emirate. Examining the participation of the government in the private sector and representing the government in companies where it has a stake, also comes under the purview of the DED.
