With commitments to a number of green field and expansion projects, DP World has developed significant relationships with its suppliers and contractors. This community relations initiative will enable DP World together with these key suppliers and contractors to channel donations into charities or community projects to help the local communities in which DP World operates.
Liebherr, a leading supplier of cranes, is the first DP World supplier to contribute to the initiative, with significant donations to the Dubai Autism Centre, the Sheikh Rashid Pediatric Centre, and a number of charities in Southhampton, UK where DP World operates a container terminal. They include the Sea Cadets, Naomi House Children's Hospice, and the Piam Brown Children's Cancer Ward at Southampton General Hospital. Leibherr, together with DP World, also sponsored Emirati student Jalal bin Thaniah, in his recent 600km walk for charity around the United Arab Emirates.
Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Group CEO of Ports & Freezone World (P&F World), which oversees DP World, said: 'As a global marine terminal operator with a network stretching from Asia to the Americas, we are closely connected with the local communities. We don't just build and operate ports; we build communities because we recognize we are part of that community too. We are pleased that our partners share that philosophy.'
Iqbal Khoury, Vice President, Procurement, at DP World, added: 'This initiative will strengthen our partnerships with suppliers and contractors and at the same time build strong ties with the community. Centres like Rashid Pediatric and the Dubai Autism Centre rely on donations and the continued support of corporations like DP World to continue their invaluable work with the children.'
