Memory of Zayed donated to Abu Dhabi's planned Maritime Museum

English duo Stuart Turnball and Edward Baylis successfully completed the 3,000 mile voyage from the Canary Islands to Antigua in the Caribbean in the Memory of Zayed, a boat dedicated to the memory of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The expedition, which was carried out under the Patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and supported by local Abu Dhabi organizations including Mubadala Development Company and Al Jazirah Club, successfully raised more than £100,000 for Cancer Research UK.

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), accepted the donation on behalf of the Cultural District.

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon commented, "We are delighted to accept the Memory of Zayed on behalf of Saadiyat Island's Maritime Museum, where it will be displayed as a symbol of spirit, determination and the good will of man kind."

Reflecting on their journey, Stuart Turnball and Edward Baylis said, "Without the support of Abu Dhabi we would not have been able to fulfill our dream of rowing across the Atlantic and in the process raise money for a cause that has not only affected us both personally but affects millions of people around the world."

To do it in a boat dedicated to the memory of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a man renowned for his spirit, strength and generosity of heart, gave us an enormous sense of pride and made us even more determined to succeed."

Following the official ceremony, Mr Turnball and Mr Baylis visited a selection of local Abu Dhabi schools to share their experiences, discuss the challenges they faced and encourage students to pursue their goals.
