IBM's WebSphere Telecom Application Server Version 1.2 provides a unique environment enabling developers to explore various innovations and develop more customer-oriented services, which, in turn, allows the telecom operators to implement new applications more easily and better serve their customers' needs.

IBM's WebSphere Telecom Application Server can potentially cut telecom application development and deployment costs by 30 to 50%, and help bring new revenue-producing services to market in mere months, as compared to traditional, proprietary platforms that can take a year or more," says Bashar Kilani, Software Group Manager, IBM Middle East and North/West Africa.
The product is capable of accelerating the software development process because it is based on Java and industry standards. This expands the pool of talent that can more easily develop new telecom and e-business applications to include the more than 3 million programmers worldwide who are proficient in Java. The product is based on WebSphere Application Server, which uses Java 2 Enterprise Edition. The product's companion, The WebSphere Telecom Application Toolkit, which IBM is also introducing today, utilizes Java as well.
IBM WebSphere Telecom Application Server is a key component of IBM's Service Provider Delivery Environment (SPDE, pronounced "speed -ee"), an open, standards-based framework designed to give wireline and wireless service providers the flexibility to introduce new, revenue-generating voice, text and Internet services to their customers faster, easier and at a lower cost. SPDE enables service providers to mix components to match subscriber demand.
WebSphere Telecom Application Server supports the emerging, open
application programming interfaces defined by the Parlay Group, and adopted by the ETSI, 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and 3GPP2 standards organizations. Products based on Parlay's open standards are fast becoming the gold standard for enhancing current and creating new telecom applications that run on wireline, wireless networks and the Internet.
