Dubai Healthcare City awarded ISO 14001:2004 certification
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, March 21 - 2007 at 14:12
- PRESS RELEASE
Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) has become the first of Tatweer's entities to receive major global environmental management recognition with the ISO 14001:2004 certification.
Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi, CEO of DHCC, said: "Right from commencement, we have insisted on Total Quality Management across all aspects of DHCC operations. It is heartening to note that our efforts have been appreciated by an authority that applies stringent criteria to ensure a global standard, such as the ISO."
Dubai Healthcare City has also received ISO 9001:2000 certification for its quality management system, in 2004 and the Dubai Quality Appreciation Award (DQAP) in the Health category in 2005.
Ahmed Sharaf, Senior Vice-President - Healthcare and Energy, Tatweer said the ISO 14001:2004 certification ensures the highest level of on-going environmental compliance and improvement in the environmental management systems' performance at DHCC.
"It is reassuring for all key stakeholders - medical and healthcare institutions, patients and end-users - to know that the institution does everything it can to the highest degree of environmental compliance," he said.
To receive ISO 14001 certification, an organisation must evaluate the effect it has on the environment. It should then prioritise ways in which it might reduce them. Next, it has to identify the boundaries of its management system and document procedures for implementing the requirements of ISO 14001. Finally, it has to ensure the procedures are implemented in compliance with international standards of environmental basics and then audited by an accrediting committee.
Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi, added: "Our commitment to total quality grows stronger as we progress towards creating a regional centre of excellence in the delivery of quality healthcare services."
ISO is the world's leading developer of international standards. ISO standards specify the requirements for state-of-the-art products, services, processes, materials and systems, and for good conformity, assessment, managerial and organizational practice.
