The Boeing 747 - with a maximum capacity of 291 passengers per flight, 67 more than the 777's capacity - will make more than 450 additional seats available per week, and highlights the importance of the route to the UK's flagship airline.

"Our Bahrain-Heathrow service is a busy route for our customers and positioning the 747 onto this service reflects our confidence that there is a demand for more seats during the busy summer schedule," said Paul Starrs, British Airways' Commercial Manager, Middle East.

"The 747 has proven toa be extremely popular with both customers and cabin crew and we are looking forward to committing the aircraft to what is an increasingly important route for us.

"The Bahrain service is also the gateway route for our many Saudi Arabian customers who transit Heathrow before making trans-Atlantic connections," added Starrs.
