- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, October 30 - 2001 at 12:39
- PRESS RELEASE
The official launch of Sahara Centre, the landmark shopping and entertainment mall project in Sharjah, has been set for February, 20, 2002, the company announced yesterday.
Mr. Raymond Casey, General Manager, Sahara Centre, said that there was a high level of excitement surrounding the launch of Sahara Centre among merchants and the public at large.
"This start date was chosen to coincide with the launch of our many fashion retailers' spring and summer collections. Our key anchor store merchants' construction programmes are now fully underway - targeted to be open and ready to delight customers on February 20th," he added.
Debenhams, one of the UK's leading department stores, forms part of the AlShaya Group, and will feature international brands including Liz Claiborne, Oasis, Evans and Laura Ashley. Meanwhile, Century Cinemas, which will operate the largest cinema complex in the UAE, and Adventureland, the largest indoor entertainment complex in the Middle East, are the other key anchors in the mall.
"Sahara Centre is one of the most eagerly-anticipated retail developments in the UAE, and has all the attributes to be hugely successful. With a strategic location between the two large consumer markets of Sharjah and Dubai, its strong tenant mix and pleasing retail and leisure environment, we are confident the mall will emerge as one of the UAE's premier shopping destinations. We're looking forward to working proactively with our retailers to ensure that the mall opens to a full house on February 20th," continued Casey.

Being built at a cost of Dhs. 400 million in the fast-growing Al Nahda district of Sharjah, the total built-out area of the mall will be 1 million square feet, making it the largest shopping mall in the emirate of Sharjah.
