First Cross-China Motorcycle Challenge for charity
- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, March 27 - 2007 at 08:44
- PRESS RELEASE
Operating under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, local charity Gulf for Good is inviting keen adventurers and motorcycling enthusiasts from across the Region to take part in the first China Classic Motorcycle Challenge between September 7th and 17th.
Funds raised by participants on this challenge will support Lifeline Express in China and Christina Noble Children's Foundation (CNCF) in Mongolia. Lifeline Express eye hospital trains, provide free cataract operations, which restore sight - mostly for children - and thereby return hope to people who cannot afford to pay for the surgery themselves. CNCF is a charity that provides homeless and underprivileged children with safe homes away from the dangers of the streets, where they can attend local schools and grow up to be independent, healthy adults.
Gulf for Good Challenge Director, Andy Jackson, said, "Biking through China's countryside on the famous Chang Jiang 750 motorcycle will not be an easy ride. We will be riding for lengthy periods - with a substantial amount off-road - so it's going to be fairly tough." He added, "There's so much more of China to see than just the Great Wall! It's fitting for the country that invented the compass that this challenge will allow us to explore parts of the country that are 'off the beaten track.' Aside from Beijing, the journey will take us to areas that are not foreign tourist destinations, but are absolutely worth visiting - especially by motorcycle."
Jackson continued, "The bikes are historically fascinating, but they are also ideal for this challenge as they allow both experienced and non-experienced riders to take part because they have sidecars. So, we'll be seeing different parts of China in a unique way. It's going to be an amazing cultural adventure; from the hustle and bustle of Beijing, to vast flat grasslands, huge mountains and nomadic villages, on a mixture of dirt tracks and paved roads in what's known as 'big sky country'."
The first 3 people that register for the challenge will receive a free travel guide courtesy of Magrudy's. Additionally, the challenger who raises the most funds for charity - on any 2007 adventure - will be given a holiday for two in Nepal courtesy of Himalayan Holidays (Gulf for Good's Everest Base Camp Challenge operator).
