George Mason University RAK Campus Board discusses mission and strategy
The six-member board appointed Dr Izzat Dajani, Chief Executive of IDO and Managing Director of the Ras Al Khaimah education company EDRAK as Chairman while Dr Peter Sterns, Provost of George Mason University Fairfax (Virginia, USA) campus was appointed Vice Chairman.
The Board was constituted pursuant to the bilateral agreement signed between EDRAK and George Mason University, on opening the university's branch campus in Ras Al Khaimah. Besides the Chairman and Vice Chairman the board will have Dr Tayeb Kamali, Vice Chancellor, Higher Colleges of Technology; Misbah Ahmed, CEO, Start Consult; Dr Sharon Siverts, Vice President, George Mason University Ras Al Khaimah Campus; and Dr Maurice Scherrens, Senior Vice President, George Mason University, Fairfax, USA.
"The George Mason University, Ras Al Khaimah Campus was launched in line with EDRAK's founding objective of positioning Ras Al Khaimah as the new education hub of the region. The highly experienced members we have in our Board of Governors shall ably guide George Mason University RAK Campus and steer it towards its targets of excellence and regional leadership in education," Dr. Dajani said after the meeting.
Various issues pertaining to the RAK Campus including the University's vision and mission were discussed at the Board meeting. Strategies for positioning the University as one of the premier centres of higher education as well as the strengths that differentiate the institution featured prominently in the deliberations.
The Board also reviewed the Management Report as well as the budget for the RAK Campus.
