Cleaning efforts will increase especially in Al Bataie'h, a popular holiday destination among visitors and residents for its scenic views and beautiful landscapes.
The campaign will be accompanied with area inspections carried our by officers of Sharjah Municipality. Garbage bags will also be provided to urge campers and visitors to clean up after themselves.
H.E. Dr. Salah Al Haj, General Manager of Sharjah Municipality, stated that contrary to widely held beliefs, areas around the Emirate of Sharjah are not neglected. In fact, these areas are popular tourist sites that are regularly cleaned and carefully maintained by the Municipality.
Salah Al Haj said that he was deeply saddened by the recklessness and irresponsible behaviour of visitors. Careless littering causes vast damages to the surroundings, which, in turn, effects the environment.
As a result, Sharjah Municipality has announced more regulations and warnings to combat this issue. He also stated that Sharjah Municipality plans to tackle ongoing violations with its new campaign, by expanding inspection operations, by providing visitors with garbage bags, and by creating heavier penalties and higher fines.
The clean-up campaign will include advertisements that will appear in various newspapers. Sharjah Municipality's mission is to urge visitors to be responsible and warn them of the consequences of their actions in order to create a cleaner and healthier Sharjah.
