Abdulkareem Taqi, Information Centre and Decision Support Manager, Kuwaiti Public Authority for Industry, said: "Standardising our equipment with HP is the best thing we could have done. We estimate this will yield a saving of $750,000 over a five-year period - this represents a fall in TCO of between 25 and 30 per cent. And the equipment is backed by HP's highly reliable Care Pack Services."
Amr Hassan, General Manager, Imaging and Printing Group, HP Middle East, said: "Kuwaiti Public Authority for Industry is yet another example of how HP is driving enterprises across the region to embrace the 'digital revolution in business' - with digital copiers replacing the traditional analogue copiers. Standardization of their print infrastructure and careful optimization of their copying and printing environment has resulted in an overall improvement in network efficiency with immediate cost-savings and productivity improvement."
Prior to HP, PAI used a number of different printing, copying and scanning devices to produce and disseminate a vast number of documents to numerous government bodies, external agencies and its own 18 departments. In addition, PAI's different workgroups
demanded quality colour copying and printing in high volumes and faster, higher-quality scanning equipment due to the high volume of documents being scanned.
"When we had numerous equipment suppliers, it was virtually impossible to obtain reliable service backup - we could never contact them. It was therefore essential that we chose just one dependable supplier. Today, the entire solution from HP - from hardware to services - has proved a great success for us;" Mr Taqi added.
Tailor-made solutions
The HP suite at PAI currently comprises HP Multifunction printers (MFPs), HP LaserJet Printers, HP DesignJet Printers, HP WebJet Admin software and HP Care Pack Services. HP Multifunctional Printers (MFP) are based on a complete printing, copying, faxing, scanning as well as scanning-to-email solution. This approach helped PAI boost security and manageability, delivering a more efficient printing and copying environment.
LaserJet performance
PAI specifically employs a fleet of HP LaserJet MFP devices for black and white copying and printing, and around 50 HP Color LaserJet MFPs for colour operations - two of which are dedicated specifically to outputting high-quality prints and copies on A3 paper. Also, part of the infrastructure is the HP LaserJet 5550hdn, wide-format, direct-to-page printers to satisfy the needs of dynamic workgroups. In addition, for very fast and reliable monochrome printing, the HP LaserJet 4350dtn printers were deployed. Four additional printers, including the HP LaserJet 9050dn with its 8-bin mailbox and 2,000-sheet input tray, were also specifically chosen to handle the PAI's high-volume workload.
Special solutions
For the authority's large-format printing needs, HP provided PAI with an HP DesignJet 820 mfp device - which prints, copies and scans in both monochrome and full colour. While for brilliant coloured images that are light fast and durable, both indoors and out, they have an HP DesignJet 5500uv (60"), six-colour printer.
To help PAI create manuals, brochures and similar documents, HP supplied two HP Multifunction Finishers for two of its Color LaserJet printers. These provide efficient multiple-position stapling, stacking and saddle-stitch booklet making for the authority. To match PAI's requirements for fast, professional scanning of documents, photographs, slides and negatives, HP supplied ScanJet 8290 digital flatbed scanners.
Softwares and services
To manage its entire imaging and printing environment, PAI uses the HP WebJet Admin software solution, HP Color Access Control and HP Universal Print Driver- HP's leading industry innovations and technologies. Also, three- and five-year HP Care Packs are in place to extend the standard warranty of certain equipment. These include nextday, onsite response and return-to-depot services for fast and efficient hardware support.
