34 teams representing different colleges and institutions in UAE are competing to solve the maximum number of computer programming tests within a period of five hours.

Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Manager of Etisalat University College, launched the competition with a key note speech. Then, a practice panel discussion was held for the competing teams. The competition ends today (29th of March), and a panel of judges consisting of faculty from a number of colleges will identify the winners.

A ceremony will be held directly after the competition ends, at the Millennium Hotel in Sharjah to celebrate the winning teams and distribute prizes. Some of the guests attending the party include principals and staff from the competing colleges.

The competition aims to shed light on national accomplishments in the computer programming sector. It also helps discover the skills of the competing students, and enables companies in this sector to help students nurture these abilities for their future careers.

The competition this year was sponsored by Etisalat, Tiffany & Co. - Damas, Sun Microsystems, University of Wollongong in Dubai, and British Computer Society.

Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi said "This competition will help discover the skills that contribute towards advancing technology in the country, and also provides an opportunity for students majoring in computer engineering, computer science, management information systems, information technology and related majors to help grow their skills in the computer programming sector. It will also help them solve tests related to programming, to improve their performance at college and prepare them for the international computer competition regionally and internationally."

Dr. Al Hammadi appreciated the contribution of the steering committee, the organizing committee and the College's Computer Engineering Department for their efforts in organizing the contest.
