The remaining land sourced filling will be completed within a month of this at which point the entire eastern half of the site will be completely filled.

Al Raha Beach Director, Michael Cox stated that "the land formed can now be progressively constructed on several precincts such as Al Zeina, Al Bandar and Al Wateed, which will be managed by the ALDAR/Laing O'Rourke Joint Venture Company".

Mohamed Al Mubarak, Strategy, Infrastructure and Planning Manager, commented on the progress of work and said that it falls in line with the planned infrastructure; stressing that this constitutes a benchmark in all projects developed by ALDAR.

The AED 54 billion development designed to accommodate a population of 120,000 in some of the most spectacular buildings, marinas and water features seen in the U.A.E. will start to come out of the ground towards the end of March.

The dredging company, Dredging International, used one large and two smaller cutter suction dredgers to cut 23 million cubic metres of sand from the two islands - NE Al Sammaliah and YAS Island - located on the northern side of the 600 metre wide 'Airport Channel'. This was then pumped to the development area and placed in the sea to form the first three 'precincts' - 'Khor Al Raha', 'Al Seef' and 'Al Wateed', producing some 3 million square metres of development land.

Local company Al Jaber Transport & General Contracting LLC have placed some 4 million cubic metres of land sourced filling in parallel with the marine dredging works.

Project Director, Richard Cugley of consulting engineers, Cansult-Maunsell is very pleased with the performance of Dredging International and Al Jaber Transport & General Contracting LLC over their respective 12-month periods on site. "Dredging International and Al Jaber Transport & General Contracting LLC have cooperated very well to fill the site in a most efficient manner and in the shortest possible time," commented Mr. Cugley.
