The workshop was held on the 27th of March, at Al Murooj Rotana Hotels & Suites.

The free workshop, hosted by Ilse Dubois, a senior applications engineer, for Trane, based in Brussels regional headquarters, at their Europe, Middle East, Africa & India head quarters, focused on how to make buildings more comfortable and productive for owners, and ensure accurate operating conditions in industrial processes, using heat recovery chiller applications.

The event was attended by engineers from hotels, hospitals, design consultancies and other major facilities. During the four hour session, Dubois provided an in-depth review of heat recovery chiller applications and covered the impact of heat-recovery on different aspects of the refrigeration cycle. In addition to covering air and water-cooled systems, the workshop included a case study that demonstrated economic payback for a heat recovery system in Dubai conditions. Furthermore, it was clear that heat recovery could be incorporated in to designs for new
constructions as well as existing facilities.

Continuing with its tradition of driving energy efficient systems and sustainable designs, Trane has been developing heat recovery technology and making it feasible to discerning engineers of today to apply them in demanding applications. Although heat recovery technology has existed for decades, its application could be more successful, with a better understanding of technical and economical factors, and availability of appropriate tools.

"In Dubai, you might think that the last thing we need to concern ourselves with is the recovery of heat and, to in a limited sense, you'd be right," said Dubois. "However, it appears that, in cooling our buildings on the inside, we are dumping a lot of additional heat, outside. And this 'waste' heat can be captured and used for a wide range of applications but, most usually, to heat water, thus saving energy overall."

Trane has provided heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems to customers in the Middle East, Africa and India for over 50 years; enhancing their indoor and outdoor environments through improved indoor air quality, dehumidification, moisture control, acoustics and energy efficient performance.
