Development work at AED 30 billion Najmat Abu Dhabi progressing; Completes phase I of grading works ahead of schedule

Reem Developers, today announced that development work at its flagship AED 30 billion Najmat Abu Dhabi project was progressing ahead of schedule with 1st phase grading work now fully completed.

The company had earlier enhanced the contractual scope of National Projects and Construction (NPC) to include the subsequent grading works for Najmat Abu Dhabi.

Furthermore, elaborating on ongoing development work senior officials of Reem Developers, the fully-owned subsidiary of Reem Investments stated that in addition to the grading work where over 70 pieces of heavy machinery being put to use to ensure speedy completion, the excavation work for the three marinas is also running ahead of schedule.. The AED 201 million marine works contract was awarded to China Harbour Engineering Co. L.L.C in the early February 2007.

Commenting on the development work for the project, Mr. Manish Joshi; General Manager, Reem Developers, said: 'It gives us immense pleasure to inform all our stakeholders that development work at Najmat Abu Dhabi is progressing well ahead of scheduled programme. In addition to this and given our mission of continued value creation for all our stakeholders, we have taken a strategic decision to fast track all development work on the project. Thus apart from commencing excavation work on the three marinas at Najmat Abu Dhabi, we had also enhanced NPC's contract, awarded to them in November 2006, to include the other grading packages.'

Till date a total excavation of 640,000 m3 and filling of 624,000 m3 has been completed. It is further estimated that total quantity of backfilling tantamount to one million cubic meters of soil will be completed by end of May, 2007.

Spread across 16 million square feet, Najmat, the Star of Abu Dhabi is an iconic project located on Reem Island which is 300 metres off the north-eastern coast of the federal capital. It has been designed to offer best-of-the-breed facilities in waterfront and island living. A key component of this integrated development, the three marinas - Bay Centre Marina with a 250 meter diameter, Residential Marina with a 200 meter diameter and Resort Marina with a 180 meter diameter - are strategic to the aesthetic lay-out of the project and their implementation strategy follows stringent British Standards for marine works engineering.
