Such integrated solutions rely on an array of active sensors monitoring the network and relaying information to a centralized network database storing the relationships between various network assets, helping IT administrators improve network productivity by better utilizing costly IT assets. The move comes as iTRACS research shows that a lack of integration among network components is a major bottleneck in improving return on IT assets.

"Accurate and reliable network visibility has become critical in a highly wired business environment. IT Managers need to be able to track the location of each component, whether it is in use or not and how each functions in a network. Network information needs to be automated to ensure up-to-date and accurate information whenever and wherever it is needed. This cannot be achieved by manually maintained spreadsheets. Integrated systems will enable IT managers to plan for modifications and predict accurately how these changes will affect the network service," said name, designation, iTRACS.

Intelligent Infrastructure Management relies on an array of active sensors within the network that can pick up on traffic pileups, breakdowns and other bottlenecks. The sensors help constantly monitor network health, and enable IT managers to proactively identify and rectify issues before they become network threatening.

Intelligent sensor technology and infrastructure management software can explore, discover and map network connections and connected devices from end-to-end. This information can then be held reliably in a CMDB. Real-time information provided by intelligent infrastructure management (IIM) technology held in the CMDB can be used to quickly determine, analyze and solve deviations in process, while also ensuring that modifications are planned, executed and tracked in accordance with regulations.

iTRACS' CMDB provides a central resource in a standardized format for network visibility, enabling IT managers virtual control and management of a complex and diversified network. Information about each piece of equipment in the system and the entire network performance is readily available, multiplying the speed of any network management activity such as installation or troubleshooting.

"Business success depends not just on IT investment, but the congruence between technology and business processes. In order to ensure that network modification, maintenance and upkeep are a seamless part of network management, there is need for a cohesive view of the network structure and the linkages of all the firm's different assets. iTRAC's Intelligent Infrastructural Mapping coupled with its Configuration Management Database (CMDB) offer a holistic management tool for organizations to optimize their networks' potential," Simon Holland, iTRACS General Manager, EMEA concluded.
