RTA delegation visits Rome Metro Agency

The delegation of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) headed by H.E Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Authority visits the Metro Agency in Rome - the capital of Italy, in the framework of the official task to get acquainted with the latest regulations on the metro, trains and trams.
The delegation started the visit with a presentation about the Rome Metro which is planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of the metro and trains in Rome and the surrounding suburbs. The agency currently operates two lines for metro serving 49 stations with a total length of 36 km, and it also operates three lines of the trains linking Rome with different suburbs with a total length of about 150 kilometers, and the Rome Metro serves more than one million passengers daily.
They also briefed on the procedures and methods used in Rome Metro to provide security and protection to passengers and metro stations and utilities, which would be achieved through 400 guards in addition to developed control system depends on 1200 television camera linked to a computer program based on artificial intelligence techniques to identify the events that may cause a threat to the security for example left baggage without accompanying, or people standing for long periods, or the accumulation of passengers in one place.
Later, the delegation visited the main workshop of the Line A for Rome Metro which has an area of 230,000 square meters and conducting maintenance for around 45 trains train each one with a 105 meters of length and 2.8 meters in width and each train comprise of six carriages with a capacity of 1200 passengers and around 192 individual works in the workshop include administrators, engineers, technicians and workers.
During the field tour in the workshop, the delegation visited the central control room which distributes the trains automatically to the different maintenance areas according to the nature of the breakdowns and the quality of maintenance required. Then, the members of the delegation inspected various parts of the workshop, including a daily maintenance workshop and the location of substantial reforms and the cleaning of trains. After visiting the workshop, the members of the delegation inspected one of the new Rail that been purchased recently by Rome Metro at a cost of approximately 50 million dirhams for each train, and then enter the train in A Line while the delegation checked also the tunnels, stations, control systems and lighting signs.
At the end of the visit, HE Mattar Al Tayer exchanges souvenirs with Mr. Stefano Byanki, Chairman of the Metro Rome and thanked him for his hospitality in hosting the RTA delegation.
