Huawei awarded Algeria GSM-R contract

Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd (Huawei), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, has announced that Algeria Société Nationale des Transports Ferroviaires (SNTF) has selected Huawei's GSM-R solution for the construction of the Tabia-Mecheria railway communication system.
Huawei's GSM-R solution can meet ETCS LEVEL-2 requirements and possesses the capability to support ETCS LEVEL-3. After construction is completed, Tabia-Mecheria line will be the first modern railway in Algeria to be equipped with GSM-R technologies.
"Huawei has invested continuously for ten years in GSM-R technology, and we are delighted to construct the GSM-R system for SNTF. Huawei will make a positive contribution to the rail communications industry in Algeria through the supply of abundant rail communication services," said Tian Feng, President, Huawei Technologies Middle East and North Africa.
Since 1996 Huawei has been investing in the research and development of GSM-R technologies and was awarded the first commercial GSM-R contract in China by Daqin railway in 2003. While Huawei was the first to introduce GPRS technologies to railway application, it has also introduced highly reliable, next generation core network and ALL-IP platforms to GSM-R.
Today, Huawei stands of one of the major suppliers of end-to-end GSM-R solutions. Huawei is committed to improving the security and stability of each single network element according to the special requirements of railway mobile communication, and adopting disaster recovery solutions, such as softswitch and backup architecture, in core network designs.
Huawei also offered its advanced technology for Shanghai Maglev Railway, adopting the latest sophicticated solutions, such as handle handover algorithm, GPRS applications and Doppler frequency shift cancellation technology under a demanding high-speed environment (430KM), to ensure excellent performance at high speed.
Huawei's innovative GSM-R solution follows the EIRENE standard recommended by the Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer (International Union of Railways, UIC) and can supply various kinds of customer-oriented rail communication services, such as Shunting, Train-end Information Transport, Running Number, and Multi-locomotive Traction.
Thanks to GSM-R's excellent compatibility, Huawei is active in working together with nearly all major global signaling suppliers and makes an positive contribution to applications of GSM-R systems around the world.
