RTA utilises 'Hawkeye 2000' to collect data about Dubai roads

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a new device (Hawkeye 2000) to be utilized in the assessment of the functional capacity and position of roads construction to maintain an excellent situation, as well as monitor the required maintenance.

The new device represents the latest advances in modern technology in the field of assessment and data collection on roads.

This was announced by Eng. Nabil Mohamed Saleh Director of Roads Department at Traffic and Roads Agency, who emphasized that the device has proved a high capacity in collecting data about the defects of the roads including the roughness, the tissue of surface asphalt and other defects which can be tested by 13 laser units for the data collection during driving on roads at speeds ranging from 30 km to 120 km without hindering traffic.

He said that the device can record and monitor the defects of the road through highly sophisticated digital cameras linked to a "GPS" system where the images are analyzed by an advanced data-processing program.

Eng. Nabil added that the device is equipped with eight new advanced digital cameras, six of which are for roads data collection, including the traffic signals, lighting poles, traffic lights, bridges, tunnels and all other elements within the right of the way. The other two cameras are used for monitoring and recording the road defects and transfer it to databases system which gives a report includes the position of the road and the type of treatment or maintenance required.

The Director of Roads Department pointed out that the use of new technology devices by RTA reflects the RTA dedication to improve develop and improve the performance of Dubai road network to cope with the economic and social developments in the emirate.
