- PRESS RELEASE
Nidek participated this year through the NAVEX seminar in the XI Congress of the Middle East African Council of Ophthalmology (MEACO) which is held in Dubai from 29th March until 1st April 2007 and organized in cooperation with the Department of Health & Medical Services in Dubai.
NAVEX seminar, which is their featured event at MEACO this year, in which they hosted over 80 doctors that use many of their products including the CX3 Excimer Laser (formerly EC-5000) and OPD-Scan II for corneal topography and wavefront aberrometry measurements. The presenters were distinguished Nidek surgeons from around the world including UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, USA, Egypt, Russia, Italy, the UK and Iran.
This year, the seminar proved to be very popular and beneficial to all those that attended. Enlightening and energetic discussions developed after many of the presentations, indicating that doctors use Nidek products for the betterment of their patients eye health.
They have one particular study, which they are very excited about called Optimized Prolate Ablation or OPA. OPA is designed to ablate the cornea much more efficiently and accurately, creating sort of a stereo vision. OPA changes the way the cornea is ablated by creating a smoother peripheral transition zone, including what Dr. Jack Holladay (USA) calls Radial Energy Compensation. Radial Energy Compensation takes into account the natural curvature of the eye at the periphery where laser ablation energy is less. With OPA, this peripheral reduction in ablation is compensated thus producing a more homogenous ablation and better visual outcomes for patients.
