During the event, DUBAL received over 3500 job applications from UAE nationals.

The fair was inaugurated by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister for Finance and Industry, and Chairman of DUBAL. The global aluminium giant, currently ranked seventh largest in the world, was one of the most sought-after entities at the exhibition by young UAE nationals who preferred to choose a career with the industry leader.

This year's DUBAL participation also included a major campaign that offered an opportunity for the young UAE nationals to win a raffle while registering their names and submitting their resumes at the company's stand. This necessitated students to provide complete details and submit the form to enable DUBAL to enter in its database.

The database helps the company categorise the students according to their age group, background, qualifications and skills in order to spot the right talent and tap them suitably at a later stage.

Over 3,500 applicants submitted their employment request. Hind Ismail was the winner when his/her name was chosen randomly to receive the top prize "a laptop". There were three prizes - a laptop, mobile phone and an iPod - for the winners.

Mr. Ibrahim Nasser, General Manager, Human Resources and Organization Effectiveness Department, DUBAL said: "We were highly encouraged by the response this year. In 2006, we recruited 204 UAE nationals through the Careers UAE fair. In fact, DUBAL's participation resulted in an overwhelming response as we received in excess of 3500 resumes which went through a process of vetting after proper evaluation and short listing."

"This year's participation at the Careers UAE fair was significant for DUBAL because of the several ongoing training programmes for UAE nationals at our premises. These programmes range from pre-employment courses, foundation programme for high school leavers and comprehensive graduate training (GT) programmes to a development pool for succession planning and scholarship schemes," Mr. Ibrahim Nasser added.

Currently through various extensive measures the aluminium giant has already achieved 25% nationalization. During 2006, a total of 42 trainees were recruited through the Graduate Trainee Programme, nearly 21% of the total number of trainees who participated in the course. This was against 32 in 2005.

At present UAE nationals account for over 67% per cent of senior management positions in DUBAL.
Careers UAE 2007 was an assembly of more than 179 participants from government sectors, international organisations, local companies, and private enterprises, covering a wide spectrum of sectors including Financial Services, Hospitality & Tourism, Oil & Gas, and Training and Education.
