  • PRESS RELEASE

The Ministry of Education, together with the Education Council of Dubai and the Abu Dhabi Education Zone, are working in co-operation with the British Council on developing education supervision and leadership in schools, in the UAE.

The latest activity was a three-day School Leader workshop, held recently in Abu Dhabi, which was attended by 15 principals and vice principals from schools in the UAE, representing all 10 education zones in the UAE.

The workshop, organised by the British Council, reviewed the development of school leaders and school culture, the role of head teachers as leaders and coaches, as well as the features of an effective school. It allowed the participants from the UK and the UAE to share their experience and to explore issues such as the development of staff and setting the culture and strategy for a school, school self evaluation and quality management.

The joint activity is being undertaken in support of the UAE Ministry of Education's project designed to enhance the system of education in the UAE. The workshop continues the Oxford Series of Leadership Masterclasses for school principals in the UAE, introduced by the British Council in 2005, and will be followed up by a regional school leadership seminar in Qatar.

Amy Cottage, Project Manager UAE for the British Council, comments: "The British Council's co-operation with the UAE Ministry of Education and the Education Councils is resulting in mutual benefits, allowing the sharing of skills and knowledge between education specialists in both countries and with ideas flowing in both directions. The development and maintenance of quality education is a common goal across all countries and the British Council is delighted to be able to help facilitate co-operation between experts in the UAE and the UK, through this workshop and with the ongoing programme of leadership seminars for school principals."
