Jordanian associations build coalition

As part of the ongoing effort by 'Sawtouna', the public policy advocacy initiative of the Young Entrepreneurs Association (YEA) to facilitate higher effectiveness in public policy advocacy, a high level meeting of association representatives was held at the Jordan Kuwait Bank on April 2nd.

The meeting established consensus on the importance of uniting under a coalition to support legislative initiatives that create an institutionalization of dialogue between civil society and government on draft bills, specifically referring to the Economic and Social Council Act.

The attendees also agreed to improve communication, and to the signing of a memorandum to support any coalition effort.

The meeting began with Fadi Otaqui, Sawtouna's Project Coordinator presenting a brief on their advocacy efforts and the year's action plan. Followed by a detailed presentation and discussion led by Mr. Abdullah Attieh on the ILO led social dialogue initiative which includes the Economic and Social Council Act.

In attendance were a number of prominent Jordanian associations including, the Shipping Agents Association, Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association (JITOA), Business and Professional Women, Amman Chamber of Commerce, Jordan Garments Accessories & Textiles Exporters Association, Jordan Association for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, Injaz, and the Center for Defending and the Freedom of Journalists.
