Fastlink showcases innovations at METS 2002

Fastlink offered its innovations at the 13th METS 2002, the ICT exhibition organized by the Jordanian Computer Society (JCS) and greeted by Jordanians with great enthusiasm every year.

At METS 2002 and under the theme The Mobile Handset is More Than Just a phone, Fastlink exhibited in its grand booth advanced data technologies including the Multimedia Message Service (MMS), a technology which allows subscribers to communicate from one mobile to another or from a mobile to an email with more sophisticated sound and picture messages. Fastlink was the first in the Middle East to launch MMS last August.

Fastlink also exhibited the GPRS technology, which delivers continuous and speedy Internet connection directly to the mobile handset, or to a PC hooked to the mobile. Fastlink was one of the first companies in the Middle East to implement this service and commercially launch it at the beginning of 2002.

Fastlink exhibited to the crowds at METS 2002 its newest available service to date: a GPS vehicle tracking system based on the mobile network. Fastlink effectively and successfully operated this service for the first time at last month's Jordan Rally 2002 enabling rally fans to follow the racers through the Internet.

For entertainment, Fastlink presented its blockbuster mobile competition, The Millionaire, whereby its representatives challenged the visitors of the exhibition to correctly answer questions to win prizes. At the beginning of 2002, The Millionaire, which was created after the famous Television contest, Who Wants to be a Millionaire? won the GSM Association Award for the most innovative mobile applications.

In addition to these ground-breaking products, Fastlink exhibited the rest of its voice and data services products at the technology section. This year's organizers divided the exhibition hall into two sections: The first section was for the display of technology products and applications and the second section for consumer products and direct sales of these goods.

Mr. Ziad Al-Masry, Business Development Manager at Fastlink's Data Department said: "We have a long and evolving relationship with the METS exhibition, for it is the largest and oldest technology exhibition to be held in Jordan, and it is visited each year by tens of thousands of Jordan's computer and communication enthusiasts who seek to stay up to date with the industry trends. Given that Fastlink is the leading communication company in Jordan, we see it as our duty to enrich the exhibition with all that is fresh and new in this fast-paced technology era. Visitors to our booth have lived very amusing moments indulging in the excitement of technology and the technology of excitement, which we have been keen on doubling this year round."
