Charity Golf Tournament in memory of HH Shaikh Faisal Bin Hamad Al Khalifa tees off today

The inaugural Shaikh Faisal Bin Hamad Al Khalifa Memorial Trophy Charity Golf Tournament, being held to raise funds on behalf of Bahrain Mobility International (BMI), teed off today at H.M. King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa's golf course in Safriya.

The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Mr. Saleh Isa Bin Hindi, Advisor on Youth and Sports to His Majesty the King. Also present was Muneera Bin Hindi, BMI President, Dreena Rogers, liaison officer for BMI and Richard Browning, CEO of Riffa Views, title sponsor of the tournament.

The 3-day event is expected to attract 250 participants, and is being held to commemorate the death of Shaikh Faisal, who was tragically killed in a car accident in January 2006. Shaikh Faisal supported many local charities, and held the honourary position of President of the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation.

"I am delighted to announce that sponsorship for this tournament has already exceeded BD40, 000," commented Mr. Bin Hindi. "I would like to thank His Majesty the King for kindly allowing this tournament to be held at his golf course, and add a special thanks to all the sponsors for their generosity in aid of this very worthy cause."

The first two days of the tournament are open to the invited guests of corporate sponsors, while 80 golfers shall compete in the Riffa Views title sponsor event on the third day. The tournament will take the format of a Better Ball Stableford competition, and with winners to be announced at the tournament closing ceremony on Saturday 7th April 2007.

In addition to coporate sponsors and hole sponsors, the tournament has attracted in-kind sponsorship from Bahrain Airport Services (BAS) who will be providing catering for competitors for all 3 days. In addition, Euro Motors and AXA Insurance have jointly pledged a BMW Z4 coupe as the tournament's hole-in-one prize.

Courtesy of Gulf Air, trick-shot master Kevin Carpenter shall be attending the tournament's closing ceremony, which shall take place at Riffa Golf Club. A variety of golf games will be available at the ceremony, and Gulf Air will award air miles to the winner of a target golf competition.
