Dubai Women's College conducts Insight Dubai 2007 conference
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, April 08 - 2007 at 14:14
- PRESS RELEASE
Dubai Women's College (DWC) is holding the third annual international conference, Insight Dubai, from 8-12 April 2007.
The inaugural Insight Dubai, held in 2004, was a very successful event that brought 25 international students to Dubai to interact with 25 students from DWC to discuss critical world issues. The second highly successful conference held in 2006 attracted 45 international students and 45 Emirati students.
In this third conference, students will again develop an appreciation of world leadership, global politics, cross-cultural communication and international relations which are the keys to successful leadership in the global economy through a 5-day interactive leadership conference held on DWC's campus. This conference brought 50 international, female college and university students from over 20 different countries to meet with 50 students from DWC to test their leadership skills in real-world simulations of global organizations. This year, DWC also encouraged international faculty members to attend to increase the possibility for ongoing global collaboration projects.
This conference is unique since it has a distinctive Arabic and Islamic theme. Activities include participation as a foreign diplomat in a simulated United Nations discussion, role playing a Sharia Court case, debating leadership issues and an examination of the Majlis and the local elections. Panel discussions regarding local issues such as promoting peace, female leadership in the Middle East as well as site visits to the Jumeirah Mosque, and the Heritage Village will add to the participants' understanding of the local environment.
For the students at DWC, this conference will promote interactive participation with international students which will allow our students to learn about important civil concepts, share ideas and represent the United Arab Emirates as student ambassadors. The students will be able to increase understanding of Islam and Arabic culture among the international participants who will be from a wide variety of countries.
Students will be able to form friendships and networks that will help them in their studies and in their future careers as well. This interaction will be especially important for those students who do not have the opportunity to travel outside the Middle East. These experiences will inspire our students to take leadership roles in the increasingly global economy of Dubai, foster a peace-filled future and gain a deeper appreciation and acceptance of many diverse cultures.
