Hydra Properties supports Zayed University students' conference on media freedom

The one day conference will discuss the evolution freedom of media in the United Arab Emirates.

According to Bob Guloovsen, Associate Professor and Capstone Advisor at Zayed University, the concept for the conference came from two students, Afra Ali Salem Aidas Al Rashedi and Abeer Mohammed Omar as part of their capstone study project.

"Independently they identified and contacted speakers, solicited an exclusive sponsorship arrangement with Hydra Properties and developed the agenda," he said. "In putting this conference together they are utilizing the skills they have learned in the College of Communications and Media Sciences.

A wide range of high profile speakers have confirmed their participation including Abdullatif Al Sayegh, Chairman of the Arab media Group, Mona Al-Marri, chairperson of Dubai Press Club, Jaber Obaid, Emirates Media Group, Kefah al Ka'abi, Head of Sports at Emirates Today and Mona Bosmarah, General Secretary of the UAE Journalists Association.

Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim, Executive Chairman, Hydra Properties, expressed his delight in being able to support the students' efforts in putting together an uncompromising conference.
"As well as helping to change the landscape of the country through our developments projects, we also want to work to change the educational landscape and we are delighted that our first association with Zayed University, is to give support to a debate on what a few years ago would have been a very controversial subject. I am looking forward to listening to the speakers during what should be a fascinating day's discussion," he said.
