Oxford Business Group ties up with Simmons & Simmons

The UK-based research and publishing consultancy, Oxford Business Group (OBG), has signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday with Simmons & Simmons - the international law firm with a strong presence in Qatar - to partner in the production of 'The Report: Emerging Qatar 2007', the prestigious and comprehensive review of the State of Qatar which is due to be published in the third quarter of this year.

Simmons & Simmons will work with the editorial team of 'The Report: Emerging Qatar 2007' to research and write the legal section of the report, which is produced by a team of expert analysts, based in Qatar.

The report chronicles the country's developments in a range of sectors including banking, capital markets, insurance, IT and telecoms, real estate and construction, tourism, energy and media. Subscribers are also able to receive regular updates from OBG's online briefings.

Andrew Wingfield, Managing Partner of Simmons & Simmons in Qatar, believes his firm is uniquely qualified to give insightful advice on both local and international legal issues affecting Qatar. "In such a rapidly changing legal landscape, especially with regard to how foreign firms can establish and operate in Qatar, we can help to guide OBG's subscribers through the legislative framework relating to how businesses can operate in the country, including of course in the Qatar Financial Centre," he says.

Cristina Franco, OBG's Country Director, explains that such partnerships serve to enhance the publisher's in-depth market knowledge and expertise. "The past year has seen the Qatari government attempting to attract foreign capital through a number of initiatives," she says.

"Special investment zones, the Qatar Financial Centre and the Qatar Science and Technology Park are just a few examples of the efforts being made to attract foreign investors. Qatar also boasts the highest per-capita income in the Gulf and it is determined to make itself the number one choice for higher education in the Arab world. Many have forecast investment spending in the order of US$130 billion over the coming seven years.

"Today's signing underscores OBG's commitment to co-operate with locally-based organisations in compiling its series of top level country economic and political assessments.

"Simmons & Simmons' extensive experience in the region will help maintain our reputation as the number one provider of comprehensive and accurate analyses of developments across the region and I am very pleased to have them on board as our legal partners," she adds.
