All aboard the Orient-Express to Krakow

Luxury train operator Orient-Express has announced that the legendary Venice Simplon-Orient-Express will operate a new seven-night grand touring experience through Central Europe in July 2007 from Venice to Krakow. Guests from the Middle East will be welcome on board.

In keeping with the great Orient-Express tradition of offering intriguing, long distance itineraries with a real sense of adventure, the train will visit five different countries with highlights including Vienna, Krakow and Warsaw.

Departing Venice on July 9 the train will travel to Vienna, before heading through the scenic High Tatras Mountains in Northern Slovakia. The tour continues into Poland to Krakow and Warsaw and ends in Prague. Three nights are spent on board the train with four overnight stopovers in Vienna, Krakow and Warsaw.

Meals on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express are unforgettable and freshly prepared onboard by French chefs, with the finest supplies taken onboard during the train's journey. Lunch, dinner and brunch are served by the Italian waiters in one of the three individually styled Restaurant Cars: Lalique, Etoile du Nord or Chinoise and breakfast and afternoon tea are served in passengers' compartments.

Private compartments


Travelling in private compartments, passengers are attended by Cabin Stewards throughout the journey, and are assured of attentive yet discreet service. Each compartment has its own original washbasin cabinet with hot and cold water, and at night-time becomes a comfortable bedroom, complete with soft towels and crisp linen. Passengers may select from two types of compartment: Double and Single.

A private lounge during the day with a banquette sofa, footstool and small table converts to night configuration with an upper and lower bed. A washbasin with hot and cold water is enclosed in a cabinet and towels and toiletries are provided.

Facilities include 24-hour steward service called by a bell, international electric sockets and 115-volt socket for razors, individually controlled radiators supply heating. Some compartments are fitted with a personal safe. Overhead luggage racks are provided for the storage of a limited amount of luggage and two coat hooks and two hangers for hanging up clothes.

Famous for its delicious cocktails and welcoming atmosphere the Bar Car is the heart of the train. It is truly a unique, intimate and stylish experience that resounds to the voices of royalty, heads of state and celebrities such as Gregory Peck, Alan Whicker and Cher.

Never overdressed


Transformed and designed by Gerard Gallet from a dining car, the Bar Car is the ideal rendezvous to enjoy relaxed conversation and warm to the skills of a resident pianist. Dressing for the occasion is all part of the experience. You can never be overdressed aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.

As well as the thrill of travelling in the lap of luxury on board the world's most famous train, off train tours will be arranged to Slovakia's Spišsky Hrad Castle, Lazienki Park in Warsaw as well as a tour of historic Krakow which is celebrating its 750th anniversary in 2007, and a gala dinner deep in the city's famous Salt Mines.

Guests will be able to extend this seven-night itinerary with two nights in Prague, returning to Paris or London overnight on the next scheduled departure on July 18, making it a 10-night tour.
