- Qatar: Thursday, April 12 - 2007 at 12:42
- PRESS RELEASE
Qatar National Bank (QNB) and Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) of Qatar Foundation signed an agreement today whereby QNB will be one of the main sponsors of the upcoming 'Comprehensive and Integrated Care for Diabetes' conference.
Several institutions and medical specialists from Qatar, Egypt, USA, and Italy, will speak and conduct workshops. The symposium will disseminate the latest information on caring for patients suffering from diabetes.
Mr. Ali Shareef Al Emadi, Acting Chief Executive of QNB, said: "Community is one of the four cornerstones of QNB. The bank continues to sponsor activities that underscore the importance of taking significant measures towards leading a healthier life. It is for this reason that QNB extended its sponsorship to QDA since the institution is dedicated to helping patients suffering from this disease understand the reality of their illness in order to lead normal lives and keep playing a productive role in the community."
The objective of this conference is also to encourage the widespread implementation of measures to control diabetes and to reduce complications in the lives of people living with diabetes and thus achieve long-term savings in healthcare expenditure.
It is worth mentioning that diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. Though its major cause is yet to be determined, factors such as sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy diets play a big role. Hence with certain precautionary measures, it can be avoided.
