LogicaCMG will display facial recognition technology and launch a new whitepaper at the Summit, offering identity management specialists an important insight into the latest thinking on biometrics and electronic identity.

Entitled 'Expanding the fusion concept,' the whitepaper will cover multimodal biometrics and fusion searching. The author of the whitepaper, Tim Best, will be at the event, delivering a presentation on multi-modal biometrics.

'Identifying an individual using biometrics has been possible for sometime and there are already some very sophisticated applications. However, new innovations are making it possible to record a selection of biometric and biographic data to support much more extensive electronic identification schemes,' said Tim Best, Director of Global Identity Solutions, LogicaCMG.

LogicaCMG's face-recognition application compares the camera-captured image of an individual's face with reference photographs stored in a database to identify the person. This form of biometrics makes it possible to recognise individuals by their unique personal characteristics. Recent tests have revealed success rates of over 85%.

The applications for such innovative technology are extensive. Across the Middle East, government authorities are investing significantly in identity schemes to register the overall population levels. Biometric technology offers the most secure method of ensuring all details in these projects are accurate and correct.

In addition, biometric technology could offer an important tool for the region's airports to help manage the increasing volume of passengers arriving in the Middle East. Dubai International Airport, the busiest in the Middle East, crossed the eight million passenger mark in the first quarter of 2007.

The passport already deploys biometric technology through E-Gate Systems to help reduce waiting time and enhance security. LogicaCMG is a pioneer in this field with their work on the Privium scheme in Europe.

'LogicaCMG is in discussion with a number of significant organisations in the region about deploying our solutions in identity verification programmes, border control solutions and physical access control technology. Given the rapid and ongoing development of projects the Middle East, we're anticipating strong demand in coming months,' concluded Best.
