Ministry of State for FNC Affairs continues collaboration process between FNC and the Cabinet

The UAE government presence in the Federal National Council (FNC) sessions, represented by the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs (MSFNCA), highlights the contribution of the government in empowering the FNC and its role, said H.E. Dr. Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs during the convening of the Federal National Council (FNC) in its 14th legislative term.

The session headed by Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair, Head of the Council, and attended by H.E. Shaikha Lubna Al Qassimi, Minister of Economy, H.E. Major General Saif Al-Shaafar, Undersecretary at the Interior Ministry, and H.E. Abdulla Balhaith Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Public Works.

Dr. Gargash said: "The government is keen to attend the council meetings and this function forms a major part of the Ministry of Federal National Council Affair's coordination work. Recently the ministry has effectively begun its coordination between the FNC and the Cabinet on legislative and oversight matters relevant to both branches of government."

Dr. Gargash added that the purpose of coordination between the FNC and the Cabinet is to develop the scope of work in the Council and the government. This will help enrich the experience and further empower the role of the Council to accommodate the plan of H.H. Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to develop political participation in the country, "The fourth session of the newly assembled FNC was successful and the debates highlighted the importance of representing the government in discussing the main topics and issues," said Dr. Gargash.

The Council has discussed eight general topics since its first meeting of this year and topics have been directed to the Cabinet. The MSFNCA has also directed eleven draft laws to the council for discussion, two of which have been debated, approved, and are currently in the process of issuance. Another three draft laws have been have been approved in the fourth session held on April 10th, 2007, as well as two questions discussed with the minister of MSFNCA.
