- PRESS RELEASE
The Harvard Medical School Dubai Center (HMSDC) Institute for Postgraduate Education and Research and Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a member of Tatweer, will present its Tamayoz Awards for excellence in clinical care and medical research at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai on April 19.
Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi, CEO of DHCC a member of Tatweer, said: "The HMSDC Tamayoz Awards are being positioned as the Oscars of the region's medical and healthcare sector. The who's who of the industry will be there to support the young professionals who have contributed to raising the bar on healthcare services through their outstanding work."
She said the awards were in tune with DHCC's fundamental commitment to quality and excellence. "DHCC will continue to come up with initiatives on its own or in partnership with other leading institutions to promote excellence in this sector," she added.
Dr. Robert L. Thurer, HMSDC Chief Academic Officer said: "The recipients of the HMSDC Tamayoz Awards were selected by an eminent panel comprising faculty members from Harvard Medical School. On 19 April, we will honour these outstanding medical trainees, young physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals who made exemplary contributions to the medical sector across the GCC during 2006."
The HMSDC Tamayoz Awards invited applications from healthcare workers and professionals for recognition in the three main categories, each including sub-categories in Clinical Care and Research. The Trainee Award acknowledges the work of medical interns, residents and fellows. The Young Physician Award recognizes physicians who have completed postgraduate training. And, finally the Nursing and Healthcare Professional Award honoring nurses and allied health professionals active in clinical practice or employed as medical educators. All nominees were required to be less than 40 years of age.
"HMSDC was established to provide young medical professionals with advanced tools and skills to enhance their capabilities and raise the standards of the healthcare sector in the region. The HMSDC Tamayoz Awards are an extension of this mission, as they seek to recognise and reward excellence in the sector," Dr. Thurer added.
The winners, in addition to being recognized for outstanding accomplishments, will each receive a one-month observership at a Harvard-affiliated hospital or laboratory in Boston, Massachusetts.
