As part of its community outreach and educational initiatives, Nissan Middle East hosted recently an enlightening visit for DMC's ebusiness management students to its iconic Oppama Plant in Tokyo.

Nine students and two faculty members visited the manufacturing line where the Nissan TIIDA is assembled. The Oppama Plant is one of Nissan's three major vehicle manufacturing plants in Japan. Beginning operations in 1961, this plant is located around 51 Km south west of Tokyo and was Japan's first full-scale integrated vehicle assembly plant. In 1970 it was the first domestic plant to introduce welding robots, later becoming a pioneer of flexible manufacturing systems which has led to its position as a leader in automated customer driven manufacturing.

The students saw the organization and complexity of the employees' work on the production line. They witnessed the welding of the bodies, the assembly of the internal & external trim and the testing and driving of the Nissan cars at the end of the line. The greater plant area also includes the Nissan Research Centre, home to Nissan's research activities, Vehicle Testing Department which operates the Oppama Proving Ground, a test track within the plant area to ensure quality of the vehicles and the Nissan Global Training Centre, a facility to ensure high level of quality in all the global operations.

"The journey was designed for the students to experience the global and integrated Nissan culture. This trip is one of many other events we are planning to arrange in order to support the education of youth in the Middle East. We want to motivate the students to excel at what they do and accomplish great success in their future"

commented Adel Faidi, Corporate Communications, Nissan Middle East.

The students of Dubai Men's College expressed their satisfaction with the visit and considered it to be a great learning experience. They were impressed with this great project which gave them a lot to think about back in their lecture rooms.
