WCMC-Q clinical faculty celebrate appointment to HMC

Ten members of Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar faculty have been appointed to the medical staff of Hamad Medical Corporation it was announced this week.

Following a recent meeting, the Board of Directors of the Hamad Medical Corporation approved the credentials and privileges of WCMC-Q doctors, Bruce Davidson, M.D., Maya Hammoud, M.D., Nasir Hussain, M.D., Bakr Nour, M.D., Mai Mahmoud, M.D., Nady Nady-Mohamed, M.D.,Powers Peterson, M.D., Ahmad Teebi, M.D., Leopold Streletz, M.D., and Amal Khidir, M.D., securing their appointment to practice at HMC hospitals and clinics.

Dr. Daniel Alonso, Dean of Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q), congratulated the faculty on their appointment. He said: "This is a milestone in the history of WCMC-Q and I look forward with great anticipation to the contributions our faculty members will make to patient care, the academic life of HMC, and the positive impact that their clinical experience at HMC will have on the education of our students."

Dr. Latifa al-Houty, Chairperson of Hamad Medical Corporation added, "This very important development further strengthens our affiliation with WCMC-Q. We warmly welcome these physicians to HMC, where their expertise and knowledge will further support the comprehensive patient care that we offer."

Established in partnership with Qatar Foundation, WCMC-Q is part of the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, the first American institution to offer its M.D. degree overseas. WCMC-Q offers a complete and integrated educational program, comprising the two-year Pre-medical Program, followed by the four-year Medical Program, with teaching by Cornell faculty. There are separate admission processes for each Program, guided by the standards of admission in use at Cornell University in Ithaca, and its Medical College in New York City.

Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development is a private, nonprofit, chartered organization founded in 1995 aiming to develop and utilize human potential through a network of centers and campuses. In 1997 the Foundation set out on a strategic plan to create an Education City that is composed of a number of research centers, branch campuses of world-class educational institutions and a Science Park that acts as an incubator for research, responds to the immediate needs of industry and anticipates future necessities for development. In October 2003, Education City was officially inaugurated and it is now home to branches of some of the world's leading universities and research centers.
